理科专业牛津大学怎么样?
Oxford is an amazing place, but the maths department there is small and quite old fashioned - in fact when we visited, our tutor told us one of the lecturers had just retired. It depends what you want out of a masters degree I guess! If you want to learn about current ideas then look elsewhere, but if you are happy with mathematical rigour then Oxford is great. We were taught by some brilliant people such as Tim Brown, Peter Donnelly, Matt Hopkins, Mark Kahnerman, Simon Kurtz, Adrian Pascanu…I could go on! We also made friends who are now collaborators and colleagues(one went on to do a PhD with me at UCL) so it wasn’t all bad! The social life was fantastic too and everyone has been kind enough to stay in touch. I would recommend anyone who wants an exciting academic challenge to apply for Oxford - they might not be the best place if you want to party or indulge in too many activities outside academia but if your goal is to study maths then Oxbridge really does offer something that no other institution can. There are some things about British universities which will never make them perfect places but this will have to remain one of my favourite ever institutions.
