一, J-1 Visa: This visa is for exchange visitors who wish to study or do research in the United States as a participant in an educational or cultural exchange program approved by the State Department. The most common type of students coming into the country on this visa are professors, researchers ,students, scholars and visiting professionals - people with special skills that the U.S. needs but can't get enough of at home. They come here on what's called a "scholarship", which means someone else is paying their bills, from housing to travel to health insurance. A few universities also sponsor international faculty members on these visas.
If you enter under this category of visa and work after your studies then such activity will be treated as violation/overstay of visa, unless it falls within exception listed below: If during stay in USA you have acquired permanent resident status through marriage , then you may continue working till end of your spouse’s visa validity period provided you were not employed while on student visa. You may also continue to work if your employment was authorized when you got the j-1 visa, or because you had been in an internship programme before starting full time studies which did qualify you for work authorization under the J-1 “two year training and research” exemption. Also, you could work if doing so would prevent significant financial hardship to yourself or your dependent family members. However you cannot earn more than $20,000 dollars per annum. Even
